This Friday, February 9 at night, the La Guaira Sharks were proclaimed champions of the 2024 Caribbean Series.
The 'escualos' won 3 runs to 0 against Tigres del Licey, a professional baseball team from the Dominican Republic Baseball League.
Those led by Oswaldo Guillén achieved the feat at the LoanDepot Park stadium in Miami (United States).
The 'sharks' are celebrating twice: first for ending an extensive drought in the local tournament (LVBP), and now for winning the Caribbean Series, for the first time in their history.
The 'salados' represented Venezuela in this Caribbean Series, after achieving the championship of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) in its 2023 - 2024 edition.
Many years passed for Venezuela to triumph in the Caribbean Series. The previous winners were the Tigres de Aragua in the 2009 campaign.
After 38 years of drought, La Guaira won its eighth title in Venezuelan baseball by beating its rivals, Cardenales de Lara 3 - 0, in Barquisimeto.
Furthermore, the 66th edition of the Caribbean Series could not close in a better way and the game broke a record in the baseball fair, with an attendance of 36,677 fans present in the stands; even surpassing the highest attendance of the 2023 World Baseball Classic final (USA vs. Japan, 36,098).
Pitcher Ricardo Pinto was chosen as MVP of the Miami 2024 Caribbean Series; After pitching 5.2 innings, in which he had four hits, he struck out five batters and walked one.
In addition, Venezuela's manager, Ozzie Guillén, became the second manager in history to win a Major League World Series and a Caribbean Series.
For their part, the Federales de Chiriquí from Panama took third place in the baseball competition, after winning 5-4 against the Curacao Suns (Curaçao), in the game played hours before.
