They were best friends, but after a tragedy; nothing was ever the same again. In the film Mothers' Instinct, guilt, paranoia and suspicion take hold in the lives of two families living in the suburbs of the 1960s. The psychological thriller is led by stars Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) and Jessica Chastain (The Cross Stories), Oscar winners with extensive filmography and experience in highly dramatic stories.
The actresses, who shared the bill in Interstellar, are once again part of the same project with this film adaptation of Derrière la Haine, the suspense novel of the same name written by Barbara Abel. This project marks the directorial debut of French cinematographer Benoît Delhomme, whose visual imprint outlined the films The Theory of Everything, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Wilde Salomé.
The trailer highlights the close relationship that existed between Alice (Chastain) and Céline (Hathaway) as neighbors and friends with children of the same age. However, when one of their children dies in an accident, the bond becomes a bond of bitterness and mistrust. The gloomy version of a children's song adds intrigue to the preview of the feature film that explores the darker side of a mother's love.
The cast includes Anders Danielsen Lie (The Worst Person in the World), Josh Charles (The Exemplary Wife) and Caroline Lagerfelt (Sweet Magnolias). Actresses Chastain and Hathaway not only lead the cast, but also have production credits under the Freckle Films banner, in collaboration with Kelly Carmichael.
The suspense and drama fiction lasts 93 minutes, and will be in cinemas in Argentina starting January 11, 2024. Its release date has not yet been set in the United States and other Latin American countries.
