Alexandre Grimaldi, the eldest son of Prince Albert of Monaco and former stewardess Nicole Coste, has given his first solo interview to Tatler magazine, in which he has revealed details about his relationship with his father and the plans of his future.
The 20-year-old, who studies at a New York university, has expressed his desire to work in collaboration with his father and become a kind of “global ambassador” for Monaco.
“[I aspire to] work on a relationship with my father and become, let's say, a global ambassador for Monaco and bring business opportunities to Monaco, which is what I have discussed with him,” Grimaldi told Tatler.
Alexandre, who was born in 2003 but did not enter the line of succession to the Monegasque throne as his parents were not married, was publicly recognized by his father when he was a baby in 2005. Since then, he has maintained a close relationship with him and his older sister, Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, the result of another previous relationship with Prince Albert.
“It's fine with my father, we are starting to see each other a lot more. During the holiday season, we spend a lot of time together. It is a very good relationship,” said Alexandre, who also said that he shares a passion for sports and cinema with his father.
According to Alexandre, his father is naturally “more competitive” when it comes to the sport, which is not surprising given Prince Albert's past as a five-time Olympic bobsleigh competitor.
“It starts as a joke, but as the score gets closer it becomes much more serious and there is less comedy involved,” Alexandre joked.
The student has also revealed that he has a family chat group with her sister Jazmin and her younger siblings, twins Jacques and Gabriella, children of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene.
“I really liked growing up with my brothers, and my mother takes good care of me. She couldn't ask for more,” said Alexandre, who has grown up between France, New York, Geneva and London with Nicole and her two children from a previous relationship.
Alexandre has also spoken about his interest in fashion and the connections he has established with some important names in the sector thanks to his father's relationships. Umar Kamani, founder of Pretty Little Thing, invited him to Fashion Week. He has also struck up a friendship with Tommy Hilfiger, who is “quite close friends” with his father.
Furthermore, Alexandre has rejected the use of the term “illegitimate” to refer to him in the media for the past 20 years. Alexandre has defended in his interview with Tatler that “none of my parents were married and neither committed adultery… My father claimed me voluntarily when I was a baby, not because a judge or the press forced him to do so.”
Alexandre Grimaldi appears to be a young man who is self-confident and proud of his origins, who is clear about what he wants to do with his life and who has the unconditional support of his father, Prince Albert. from Monaco.
