Disney announced a sequel to “Moana,” which will be released in theaters on November 27. Company CEO Bob Iger revealed the news on CNBC ahead of Disney's fiscal 2024 first-quarter earnings report.

The second “Moana” was originally developed as a television series, but was turned into a feature film because Iger was impressed with the footage.

"'Moana' remains an incredibly popular franchise," Iger said in a statement. "We can't wait to bring you more of Moana and Maui when 'Moana 2' hits theaters in November."

On this occasion, Moana must venture across the seas of Oceania, responding to the call of her ancestors, who were pathfinders, so she will once again be accompanied by the demigod Maui and a very peculiar crew of sailors, with whom she will live exciting adventures.

Dave Derrick Jr. is directing this animated film. The music is provided by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, as well as Opetaia Foa'i and Mark Mancina, the latter of whom were part of the 2016 film.

It should be noted that the live action version of the first Moana film is also being made, in which Dwayne Johnson has been confirmed as Maui, but it is not known which actress will play the role of the protagonist, initially it had been announced Auli'i Cravalho, who lent her voice to Moana in the animated version, but now only serves as executive producer.

But this is not the only animated film that will have a sequel in the coming years, there was also talk of Frozen, Zootopia and Toy Story, for which there is still no release date.
