The day finally arrived that Japan had been waiting for since September 13, 2013, when Tokyo was chosen to host the 2020 Games: this Friday opens the most chaotic and complicated edition of the planetary sporting event in the modern era.

Friday night’s opening ceremony in Tokyo will mark not only the beginning of two weeks of sporting events, feats and emotions, but also the end of years of difficult preparations for the Japanese organisers and the International Olympic Committee.

After 121 days touring Japan, the Olympic flame reached the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo where the number one tennis player in the world, the Japanese Naomi Osaka, was in charge of lighting the pebetero, located on top of a structure that symbolizes Mount Fuji.

In the ceremony, six relays were held since the Olympic flame entered the stadium, passing through the hands of outstanding athletes of several generations, students and representatives of the health sector.

With the Olympic plate on, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are finally inaugurated. An unusual ceremony that had to be postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Emperor of Japan, Naruhito, declared the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 inaugurated, to then give way to the Olympic flag that entered the Olympic Stadium loaded by athletes from the five continents and another of the refugee team.

As they raised the flag in which they will be home for the next few days, the anthem of the Olympic Games was heard. But what caught the attention of everyone was the presentation of the pictograms representing the different disciplines of the fires being one of the most outstanding acts of the Japanese night.

The traditional parade of athletes who will represent the 206 participating delegations, which as a great novelty will have two champions per country, one man and one woman, the ceremony will be held for the first time in history without public in the stands due to sanitary restrictions.

Following the completion of the athletes' parade at the opening ceremony, the Olympic Oath was held in which they commit to inclusion, equality and non-discrimination during their participation in the games.

With the new Olympic slogan they launched a message of union to everyone: "Faster, higher, stronger, Together". They put on a show with over a thousand drones that started with the games logo and ended up forming the map of the world. In the center of the stadium different cubes and rectangles of different colors to form the logo of the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020.

Angelique Kidjo, Alejandro Sanz, John Legend and Keith Urban performed the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. This is the third time this theme has played in an Olympic Games.
